Silk Screening

Well, it's spring break at the Snicklefritz Ranch, and if you remember last year's spring break undertaking, you know that Herr Snicklefritz doesn't deal with spare time very well.

At any rate, this year, in addition to the constant flow of handmade paper that he's churning out at the papermill, he's also honing his silk screening skills--unfortunately not with the same finesse and skill!

After Frau Snicklefritz brought home the book Screen Your Stuff from the library, her husband was inspired. He dug out his dusty screen and quickly made use of the "Heart" pattern at the back of the book. He painted it onto his screen in filler, added some shadows on the other end for a second color run on the print, and starting making runs of it on some handkerchiefs. The heart came out well, but the shadow just wouldn't line up. It wasn't long before Herr Snicklefritz gave up and headed for the paint brushes to add the shadow manually.

The end result is pictured here.

Happy with the results, it was time to try some real screen printing, so the $2 clearance-rack, Egyptian cotton GAP t-shirt bought just for the purpose of screen printing was located, a background was applied in a yellow color, the heart was screened in place, and the shadows were meticulously hand painted, and only then, did Herr Snicklefritz realize how much that Egyptian cotton shirt had shrunk after purchase and washing.

So, Frau Snicklefritz has a new hand printed/painted shirt now.
