Charmed, I'm sure.

It's been a little while since I last posted, but I have been kind of crafty in the meantime. Here is my latest project: number six from Bend-the-Rules Sewing by Amy Karol . This is the Charming Handbag (two side views and an inside shot). I bought some fat quarters at Hancock ; one quarter per side. In addition to the outer and the inner fabric, there is a flannel layer of facing, just to add a little more shape. My biggest complaint about this project is that the book left out instructions on how much fabric is needed for the straps and the "tubes" (or casing) one stitches to feed the straps through. I figured it out (obviously) but I did have to think about it some. I made a 1" wide strap, so I cut a piece of fabric 4" wide and did the foldover method, as if I were making a drawstring. For the length, I just sewed two 4" wide lengths of my fat quarters together. The resulting strap is just long enough that I can carry the handbag on my shoulde...

We set up a sweat shop (literally), and here are the results.

Hooray! I can finally post these pictures! These are table linens my sister and I worked on (and have alluded to in earlier posts) for my brother and new sister-in-law. The wedding was this past weekend, so we couldn't really post the pictures until now (just in case). My brother and his new wife have white dishes with blue trim, so we found some fun fabric we thought would nicely complement their china. We chose dark blue cotton with just off-white dots and a just off-white with little red flowers. For the back pieces, which are not pictured, we chose a dark blue canvassy-duckcloth. We bought both blues at Wal-Mart (interesting note: my new hometown has two Wal-Marts; one with a fabric section, one without. Wal-Mart is apparently phasing out their fabric, which is sort of a big "screw you" to the people of rural America who only have Wal-Mart to shop at, perhaps since Wal-Mart drove out all the mom-and-pop stores. I, fortunately, live in a town with fabric store...

Raccoons and Owls and Turtles, Oh My!

Howdy! I can finally post about these little critters because my niece finally has them. The PIC and I trekked back to the homeland last weekend and we saw the niece (who is completely and ridiculously adorable--seriously, she's rocking little pigtails now. It's out of control.). We gave her tons of books and the stars and blocks blanket for Christmas, so I decided to make some little animals for her birthday, which was ages ago; yes, we are the worst aunt and uncle EVER. The "Soft Turtle Buddy" pattern comes from the classic Bend-the-Rules Sewing by Amy Karol . The directions say to enlarge the pattern 129%, but I enlarged it even more than that. I don't unfortunately remember if I went 150%, 175% or 200% (I copied the pattern quite some time ago and did not write that info down.) The finished turtle is between the size of a Beanie Baby and a Beanie Buddy, as if that helps anyone out there get an idea of its size. The shell is light blue flowery-butterfly flann...
