Cherry Tote

Here's another project I recently finished...and it only took me a couple days!
(WAY better than my procrastinatin' pajama pants project)

It's a bit difficult to tell in the pictures, but the spotty fabric is greenish with little cherries all over (fabric courtesy of Hancock Fabrics). Both the cherries and the red are basic cotton fabrics.

I used a pattern from one of my new favorite sewing books, which I am borrowing from my sister. (I promise, I will return it!!) The book is Bend the Rules Sewing by Amy Karol. I somewhat modified the pattern for her simple tote bag. My bag is a bit bigger than her pattern, and I jazzed up the straps with cherry stripes.

Also, note there are TWO pockets on the inside; Ms. Karol's only calls for one. My biggest lament is that I should have made a red pocket for the outside. Oh well. I'll just have to do that next time. *smile*

All in all, it is just what Amy Karol says, a simple tote. Not too tricksy for a beginner like me.

Is this bag reversible? It looks like it could be.

Hellooo!

I have a small obsession with hand made totes! It's cute!

I'm taking a fibers (surface techniques) and a weaving studio this semester. I'm having a blast so far. We should get together sometime and make things!!

Hope all is well! Don't be a stranger.

Ya know, the instructions in the book don't really mention it being reversible, but it totally could be. Unlike some types of totes, the handles are sewn between the outer fabric and lining, so there's no awkwardness there. The only drawback...I only made the cherry stripes on one side of the handles. But that would be a super great idea for next time...or for my sister when she finally gets her book back and makes her own "Simple Tote."

Or, you mean, when you make the "Simple Tote" for your sister because (1) you have her book and (2) you are the sewing expert now.
Well, someone was thisclose to getting some simple tote action or zip pouch or something from BTRS for her birthday, but then I thought maybe you would want to sew your own stuff. Because it's super fun. And I know you enjoy being crafty like me. :o) I would gladly make stuff for you, though.

And I'm far from being an expert. But, thanks.

And, helloooo to you, too, Sara. I'm totally not an expert on fibers nor do I know much about weaving, but those sound like cool classes. Perhaps more interesting than some of the classes I took in college, like statistics. Yuck.
