The Über Kitschy Crafty Organizer

Guten Tag! Wie geht's? All is well here at the Snicklefritz Homestead.

Until recently, my sewing basket (it actually looks sort of like luggage; it's not really a basket) was practically overflowing. So, I bought an 18 drawer organizer (from Lowe's if you are curious) for my sewing notions and other crafty supplies. I put it on my sewing table and now have a good deal of my notions stored in it. The drawers are clear, so I can see what is in each one, but the outer shell is blue. Not a horrible color, but I thought it could be spiffed up some.

First, we sanded down the sides so the decoupage would hold better.

Then I trimmed the scrapbook paper down. I used a creamy floral, some stripes, and blue paisley for the sides. The top has a different pattern from the two sides; it's a floral/bird pattern.

Choosing the paper was the trickiest part because: 1. It had to be something we had enough of and 2. It had to be awesome. I wasn't sure what kind of look I was going for initially, but I narrowed it down to these patterns (all from the same collection--I don't remember which, but I'm sure we bought them at Michael's). They're kind of a retro-kitsch, which I appreciate.

Next, we used some Mod Podge to glue the paper on. We put a couple coats on, just to make sure the paper was secure. We let that dry, and then the final step was to add a couple coats of acrylic sealer/finisher.

Just a few simple steps and now we've got an ueber kitschy crafty organizer.

And yes, I did help. The PIC did not do the whole project himself. I just paused every now and then to get some snaps.

Hooray for kitschy crafty goodness!

When I first read this post I was concerned about the fact that you bought an 18-drawer organizer because, let's face it, you have a ton of stuff in your apartment as it is. I know this because I moved a good deal of it up those daggone steps. But, then I saw in the pictures that this 18-drawer unit really isn't as big as one would think something with 18 drawers would be.

I like the paper, but you should add some pictures of the top paper, with the birds.
I'll try to get a picture of the top posted sometime. In the meantime, you can see the piece I used (the bird/floral paper) in the corner of the third picture.
