RWAR RWAR!

We made a dinosaur! RWAR! Some friends of ours recently had a little boy, so we wanted to make something fun and cute that would be awesome for a little boy.

I found this stegosaurus pattern in the book One Yard Wonders by Rebecca Yaker and Patricia Hoskins. The pattern in the book, "Steggie, The Pull-Along Dino," actually provides directions for creating a stuffed animal pull-toy (and perhaps I should also mention that this specific pattern was designed by Caitlin Bell). The directions call for the use of Velcro so a child can pull the dinosaur off of the wooden base for snuggle purposes. I decided to skip the pull-toy option partially because I was on a time crunch (the baby was born last week!) and partially because I'm a bit inexperienced when it comes to crafting with wood and construction.

We chose to use flannel (nice and cuddly) for the both the body and the spikes. Both fabrics came from Hancock. We purchased a yard of the print, which was generous. All the patterns in the book are meant to be made with one yard or less of each fabric, obviously, but in this case we could have probably gotten away with a little less than 1/2 yard. The pattern suggests using felt for the spikes, but we used flannel and lined the spikes with a layer of fleece to help them stay upright. We used two buttons that we already had for the eyes. Hard to see in the pictures, but we used the same light green for the bottoms of the feet, too.

Hopefully the little guy will like the dinosaur; we'll be seeing him later today!
